When my daughter Courtney and her husband Drew purchased their home last year the property came with a guest house situated at the back of their yard. Eventually this will be an “adorable little guest house” but before the remodel it barely qualified as a potential guest house.
This spring marked the beginning of the remodeling process and as with many remodeling projects it has taken much…MUCH…longer than expected.
But it’s coming along and it’s going to be SO CUTE!!!
In the first photo you can see the back of Courtney’s house through the door that’s just to the left of the above photo. This room will eventually be the bedroom.
As you turn around and look opposite the door you can see the bathroom and laundry corner.
The laundry is now enclosed in it’s own little corner.
The bathroom is really fairly spacious for this size guest house.
New subway tile and…
an absolutely amazing tile floor are giving this bathroom a whole new personality!
If you look to the left as you stand facing the bathroom you will see the living/kitchen area of the space and what will be the main entrance.
Standing at the main entrance you can see the entrance to the bedroom, the door to the bathroom and the laundry corner just behind that.
The lovely area highlighted by the missing sheetrock shows the outline of the original kitchen cabinets. The kitchen will have a new layout but remain in the same corner.
After new electrical and plumbing the next project was installing the new wood floor. Courtney and I will be whitewashing the floors soon after which I’ll be sharing more details on the installation and finishing of the floors.
But floor already looks amazing even in it’s unfinished state! Walls have now been sheet rocked, textured and primed.
Above you can see how much we accomplished on our first day of installing the new Ikea kitchen cabinets. One. lone. corner. cabinet. base. That’s it. 1 cabinet.
This, my friends, is what an entire Ikea kitchen looks like prior to installation. I’m embarrassed to say how many hours it took us to install that one corner cabinet.
This was not a quick or simple install.
But over the next few days…or was it weeks…(I’ve lost track) progress was made. Drew, Scott and Jared persevered and it’s actually starting to resemble a kitchen. Especially with some of the new lighting installed.
You guys, Courtney has so many cute things planned for this little guest house!
It’s going to be absolutely adorable! I promise! I can’t wait to show you!
We just have to finish it first.
