Each year, around the first of October, I get a call or text from my friend Jan asking if we’re still on for decorating her home for Christmas.
This year marks the 7th or 8th year I’ve decorated for Jan. You’d think I’d remember how many years but I’ve lost count.
Each year Jan purchases a few new things for her tree generally staying with the more traditional Christmas colors.
This year she surprised me with a touch of burlap!
We mixed the burlap with her traditional colors for a stunning Christmas color scheme!
Here’s a glimpse of Jan’s tree from 2010. You can see more of her 2010 Christmas Here.
The new touches to this year’s tree were faux evergreen sprays full of pinecones & berries and coated with snow.
A burlap ribbon with Merry Christmas embroidered in a brilliant red.
A twist on the traditional Christmas flower…Glittered Burlap Poinsettias.
As well as a roll of simple, wired, burlap ribbon.
You’ll recognize several of the same ornaments from Jan’s 2010 tree but this year we kept the color scheme to just red, lime green, white, burlap and touches of gold.
I love the new twist on Jan’s traditional holiday decorations.
Pulled up next to the tree is one of a pair of green velvet chairs Jan inherited from her Mother. The chairs are in almost pristine condition and the color is gorgeous!
Jan insists she is “not a fan of green”.
I’m trying to change her mind.
To convince her these chairs need to stay just as they are!
If for no other reason than how great they look with her Christmas Decorations! 🙂
It’s been a hectic few weeks around here.
So far this season I’ve helped set 2 dining room tables, decorated 5 trees, 2 buffets, 2 fireplace mantles, one grand piano, one upright piano and re-made a huge Christmas wreath. So much fun!
But not a single one of these is in my own home.
Hopefully I’ll get to it soon because I have 2 parties at my house…this weekend!
You wouldn’t believe how typing that sentence just made my stomach clench.
Off to Decorate!
