Years ago I made my youngest daughter a floral sundress.
This particular pattern called for a lined bodice and I thought, “Why should I line this with a solid? A pattern would look so much cuter!”
And it did! I chose a small, contrasting check and it was adorable!
I realized early on that I’d much rather make a pillow than a dress but I loved that little sundress. I loved seeing that peek of the unexpected fabric inside the collar. It really was adorable!
That was my inspiration the first time I ever added a contrasting fabric to the back side of a window treatment. And it’s still one of my most favorite details.
It’s that pop of the unexpected or maybe it’s just a fun color that makes this such a cute detail.
Sometime’s I’ll line the entire valance like the one above. Or the next three…
But most often it’s just a band along the upper edge of the curtain. Usually between 4″ to 6″ (depending on the size of the droop). Just enough to add that little bit of interest.
more details coming soon
For this window treatment we lined the entire floor length panel in a stunning black and cream houndstooth. This curtain is seen from the homeowner’s back patio and we wanted a cute view looking back to the house. I’ll be sharing more soon.
So the next time you’re considering new window treatments don’t forget the backside. You may want to take advantage of the opportunity for that extra detail!
