HGTV teases you with the idea that you can makeover a room in a day or 2. Some even take 3 or 4 days. I don’t buy it. Not truly.
In my world, makeovers take weeks. In the case of my own personal house? Months.
And if you count the fact that I came to hate this shade of green shortly after we built our house…YEARS!!!
If a picture is worth a thousand words this pic explains why you haven’t seen this room before.
And this picture confirms it.
And this will make you think we deserve to be on Hoarders.
This room, my beloved readers, has been home to my one or both of my two oldest daughters during 8 of the last 9 years. And grant it…while these photos were taken during wedding preparation mode and much of this stuff is wedding paraphernalia it doesn’t explain the pink christmas tree and the hunting outerwear! (previous photo)
My sanity remains intact because this bedroom is upstairs and I didn’t have to see it on a daily basis.
Kaleigh moved to her soon-to-be-newlywed-apartment a couple of months before the wedding and I was able to get this room cleared but not painted in time for wedding company.
After the wedding, my son Garrison took over this room...get this…because his room was clean! And proceeded to make it look much like it did when his sisters both lived at home!
Gar’s room is our guest room whenever we have company and his grandparents had left it spotless after the wedding!
When I finally kicked him out and back to his own room this room was ready to be painted.
The wedding was in June. We got around to painting in January.
See what I mean? Months!
Now this hideous green…
is Benjamin Moore’s Stonington Gray.
Fresh. Clean. And full of decorating possibilities!
Except…I wanted to paint the mismatched beds first and that didn’t happen until last week! Three months after I painted the walls!
Let’s refresh our memories with a bedroom COLOR RECAP.
Karianne’s bedroom was originally pink…
with her closet painted the same lovely green as her sister’s bedroom.
Then we had a yellow phase.
The connecting bathroom (which will get it’s own personal blog time one of these days) as well as Courtney and Kaleigh’s closet was aqua.
Needless to say I was in a major color phase when we built.
Now Karianne’s room, her closet, the bathroom and adjoining bedroom are all painted Stonington Gray.
The aqua closet being the lone holdout for no other reason than I haven’t gotten around to it!
So there you have why real life makeovers…at least in my house…will never be as they’re portrayed on tv.
