Tamara contacted me several months ago asking about window treatments for her new kitchen. We worked long distance via email, phone calls and texts to the create this adorable little cafe curtain for her kitchen!
The window above the sink measures 46×46 and faces west. While Tamara wanted to allow in as much light as possible you can imagine the amount of sunlight that comes though this window during the evening.
We narrowed our curtain options down to a cafe curtain mounted at 31″ high.
Countertops are 36″ high + approximately 10″ from the counter to the window sill + 31″ curtain height places the rod approximately 77″ off the floor.
This height keeps the sun under control while working in the kitchen, gives Tamara the privacy she needs as well as lets in plenty of light above the curtain when it’s closed.
The finishes in Tamara’s kitchen are varying shades of white and gray with hardwood floors stained a rich coffee brown.
White subway tile in a herringbone patter topped with what appears to be a marble accent tile.
The walls are Agreeable Gray by Sherwin Williams.
We made the cafe curtain from Covington Downton in Graphite. The damask-like pattern is a beautiful gray on an ivory background. The 6″ ruffle has a slight shimmer to it. The ruffle fabric is called Tablet Gray available at fabricresource.com.
Tamara suggested the ruffle along the lower edge of the curtain. I love how this turned out!
Because the window face west I lined the cafe curtain with a white napped lining to help block the sun as well as preserve the fabric. Napped lining is a combination lining that’s slightly thicker than a regular poly-cotton lining. It looks like regular lining on one side and innerlining on the opposite side.
Tamara installed the cafe curtain using a 1/2″ metal rod and small inside mount brackets. The rings are sewn on. Each panel is about 50″ wide x 30″ long. 1″ diameter rings are sewn on.
