The first time I saw this lamp it was sitting on the sofa table in a client’s living room. I loved it!
She told me she’d purchased it at an estate sale and didn’t know any more about it. I told her that day if she ever wanted to sell it to let me know because I knew I’d use it in my own home.
A year or so later she called, ready to work on our next project together and asked if I still wanted her lamp? Yes! Without hesitation! So we bartered. My services for her lamp and I came home with a brand new/old lamp.
I carried this beauty all over the house eager to find where it’s new home would be.
I didn’t like it anywhere. It wasn’t working.
For some reason this beautiful lamp, I’d admired for so long, didn’t fit in any room of my house.
I tried several times over the next few months without luck. I figured I’d made a mistake. As much as I loved it, it just wasn’t working.
So I stashed it in a closet. I couldn’t bring myself to sell it or give it away. I still held out hope I’d find a place for it one day.
I even considered painting it but couldn’t bring myself to do that either.
Then, one day, after I installed the new window treatments in the living room, I pulled the lamp out one more time just in case.
The old lamp shade had to go, though. It was slightly dingy and the lining was torn but most of all it was too formal for me.
The lamp stands 32.5″ tall. The hardest job was finding a new lamp shade I liked that was big enough to replace the old one which was 12.5″h x 18 x 12.
I finally found the new one at Lowes. It’s has a linen-like appearance in a light taupe color. It’s 15″ square by 12″ high, only slightly smaller than the original one.
Now I love it! It sit’s at the end of the kitchen counter that separates the living room from the kitchen.
Here you can see sneak peek of the new cafe curtains I made for the kitchen.
I’ll share more of those soon.
I’m so happy I didn’t give up on this old beauty.
I believe lamps are one of those accessories where new or old, it really pays off to look for the unique.
